Il termine Honky tonk ha origine negli USA al tempo del proibizionismo con tale termine si indicavano le fabbriche abusive di Gin; più tardi si chiamarono così anche le taverne (o bar) con annessa sala da ballo; originariamente erano riservate alla gente di colore.
Honky Tonk definisce una sonorità, uno stile particolare del pinoforte, che acquista una timbrica tipica, ad esempio, dei pianoforti verticali dell'epoca del Far West o nelle colonne sonore delle Comiche.
Questo stile musicale è il precursore del ragtime, forma musicale che è nata agli inizi del 900 e che costituisce la progenitrice del Jazz. È assimilabile anche, per certi versi al Country e al Blues.
Continuate pure a criticare l'Ilaria ...... ma secondo me sbagliate di brutto..... dato che oltre alla Honky Otnk Woman c'è anche l'Honky Tonk Man!
